This weekend the Alpaca's got an extreme makeover. It was time for their yearly haircut.
We went to the ranch where they came from and jumped into the action.
The kids wrangled and held heads while they got their haircuts. Adrian helped flip them on to their sides and hog tie them. The kids even brought a few of their friends along to help out as well.
I took on the job of fleece sorter. It was my responsibility to separate the good fleece from the not so good leg and neck fleece and label and bag it all.
It was really dirty and exhausting, but it was such a great experience. The Rancher who gave the Alpaca's their haircut was from Australia. During the winter down under he comes to the U.S. for our Summer and does shearing all up and down the coast here.
For me it was such a great experience handling the fleece from all of the alpaca's I really got a good feel for all the different types and qualities of the fleece. I am really looking forward to getting it clean and processed now and being able to use it for crafts.
My selfie picture from the day since I was taking all the pictures I am not in any of them. I had to take my own picture hehehe!!
We also attended the award ceremony for the Local Fair that Anna participated in. Let us introduce to you the Grand Champion and first place ribbon holder for the Junior Preserves and Junior Craft Division of the Fair. Anna had a really great time, and all the thanks goes to her amazing 4H leader Mary, who has been such an encouragement to us this year as we are learning about animals, and fairs, and being part of a club. We actually wanted to give up and quit a few times and Mary wouldn't let us.
We need more leaders and encouragers in the world like this don't we!!
